Maureen
Almond has been writing poetry since 1992. She graduated with
an MA in poetry from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne
in 2002. She works in schools and communities and as an Adult
Education tutor. Maureen has held residencies with BBC Radio
Cleveland; Northern Disability Arts Forum, Stockton online,
(a wide area network serving communities in Stockton on Tees,
where she worked for a year); Newcastle Education Action Zone;
Sunderland Education Action Zone, St. Luke’s Mental
Hospital, Middlesbrough; the Bluecoat Arts Centre, Liverpool;
Orange Young Writers’ Festival, King’s Manor School,
Asian Women’s Writing Group; Pakistan Cultural Society,
Newcastle; Berwickshire Community Safety Forum; Knowsley Writing
Development Team and Darlington Borough Council, North Lodge
Park, (a community project involving writing and public art).
She has read widely around the North East, and in Liverpool,
London (Voicebox, Royal Festival Hall and The Troubadour)
and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
Maureen
was born in County Durham but has spent most of her life on
Teesside. She is married and has one grown up daughter. A
former Administrator and Personnel Manager, she now earns
her living as a poet and poetry tutor.
